Campaign to Help Keep Drunk Drivers Off The Road

AKRON, Ohio (Monday, December 19, 2022) – Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh and Summit County Sheriff Kandy Fatheree are re-launching the anti-drunk driving campaign Arrive Alive to help keep Summit County roads safe during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. Arrive Alive is back with free or reduced fare rides home for people who go out and drink alcohol during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. The campaign coincides with National Impaired Driving Prevention Month.

WHEN: From 6pm Friday December 23 to noon Monday December 26

AND

Use code SUMMITNYE23 for New Year’s Eve

“As 2022 comes to a close, I do not want tragedy to ruin a family’s holiday celebration. That is why I started Arrive Alive in Summit County; to provide people a safe way to get home and not put themselves or others in danger. I urge people to reserve their Arrive Alive code early and don’t forget to use it,” said Prosecutor Walsh.

“Rest assured, my deputies will be out in full force patrolling the roads and highways throughout the holiday season,” said Sheriff Fatheree. “If you are out celebrating and have too much to drink, please utilize the Arrive Alive program to get a free or reduced-price ride home, and avoid the risk of fines, arrest, loss of license, jail time… or worse.”

Prosecutor Walsh added, “this year, to provide more people an opportunity to use Arrive Alive, we’ve increased the number of available LYFT codes. Please celebrate responsibly, and if you don’t have a designated driver, use Arrive Alive.”

Summit County residents who need a ride home because they decide to drink alcohol during the Christmas or New Year’s Eve holidays can use a LYFT code for a FREE or reduced fare ride home (up to $20). The codes are only good for the specific period-of-time outlined in the flyer and this news release.

The LYFT code for the Christmas holiday is SUMMITXMAS22, and the LYFT code for New Year’s Eve is SUMMITNYE23.

Arrive Alive was launched in Summit County during the July 4th, 2018 holiday weekend. Since then, over 3,000 people have used the service.
