We were correct yesterday when we said some of the old Christmas traditions live on in New Franklin. We spoke of carolers going from house to house, lifting spirits and bringing joy. Well that’s exactly what Nikki Salas’s Girl Scouts and all of Service Unit #931 did this Christmas! First of all, isn’t it wonderful all these scout troop leaders do for the young women and men of our community, engaging them in positive and formative activities, leading by example and giving so generously of their time and talent! We are truly blessed that the scout movement is so strong here in our City. And this band of young ladies followed that direction by giving of their time and talent to entertain some local folks.

These Girl Scouts, ranging from kindergarten to 7th grade, posted online asking for people who might enjoy a visit from carolers. Twelve families responded with requests for parents, grandparents or neighbors and the young carolers spent last Monday and Tuesday visiting twelve houses, singing carols and raising Christmas spirits. Many of the homes were of the elderly and infirm who otherwise may not have enjoyed such a warm, personal contact. Once again we see the spirit of New Franklin, young and old lifting each other up, caring for each other, and sharing love. Santa hats off to Nikki Salas and her girls. You exemplified for all of us the true spirit of Christmas!
