MORE GOOD TODAY DAY The National Archives confirms that today is the third annual “More Good Today Day!” Established in 2019, at a time when civility and manners may have seemed to have been on the decline, this day is intended to remind people around the world of the importance of being good to each other. It is no coincidence that this day corresponds with the date of the Sandy Hook shootings, which tragically occurred ten years ago on this date. The purpose of the day is meant to remind people to focus on the positive things in the world, and to find a way to be a positive influence or make a difference in someone’s life. It could be holding a door, providing a cup of coffee or maybe just sharing a smile and being polite. It's amazing how far these simple gestures go, and how they are almost always “paid forward” by the recipient. Communication and consideration are emphasized. We are encouraged to come out of our shells of self-interest and find a way to raise the spirits or brighten the days of folks we encounter. Having said all this, it’s fair to say that every day is “More Good Today Day” in New Franklin because we see this attitude and these practices being displayed on a regular basis in our town. So keep up the good work, and let’s see if we can do better today on this National More Good Today Day! Paul Adamson, Mayor Original source can be found here. |
