Mayor Adamson's Daily Update for December 5, 2022

“PEACE AND JOY AND LOVE ARE IN THE AIR . . .

. . . You can feel the magic everywhere!” So go the lyrics of “Christmas Vacation,” and so went the Tudor House Christmas Open House yesterday afternoon. Hundreds of folks from the community joined us to enjoy hot chocolate, cookies, house tours, kids’ crafts, visits with Santa, and especially to be entertained by our marvelous local choral groups! First came the Coventry Elementary School Choir. Under the direction of Stephanie Galemmo, the youngsters were spectacular and gave us the lyrics above. Then came the St. Francis De Sales School Youth Choir led by Colleen McVicker, who continued the theme of happy music as well as tunes with a seasonal spiritual message. Hard acts to follow, but the Coventry High School Ensemble was up to the task. Julie Strebler continued her amazing run directing these young men and women with an enthusiasm the kids mirrored. They closed with their classic “I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas,” complete with standing choreography!

Then our own Councilwoman Bethany McKenney and her “accompanist” Judge Todd McKenney shared beautiful song and music, guitar, accordion, and even some bells for Jingle Bells! This paved the way for the delightful Supertonics Flute Ensemble under the direction of James Martin. This talented group filled the air with joyful and melodious sounds. And last but far from least, came Kate Ilg with the Manchester High School Singers. Again, her enthusiasm transferred to the performers, and they were flawless. As with the other school choirs, we shared how wonderful it was to be in the company of kids doing positive things under the guidance of caring instructors, and with the support of parents, grandparents and caregivers, all of whom made up a most appreciative audience.

So there you have it, New Franklin. Peace and joy and love are in the air. We are most grateful to all our performers and to the volunteers who made this happen. What a great start to the Holiday Season!
