As the temperature drops, the risk of inclement weather increases. When calling a snow day, we keep the safety of our students and staff top of mind as we examine the following conditions:
▪️ Amount of snow on the ground
▪️ Projected amount of snow to fall
▪️ Weather forecast for the school day
▪️ Road conditions
▪️ Temperature
▪️ Wind chill
▪️ Ability of the City of Barberton to plow and salt the streets
▪️ Conditions of school parking lots and sidewalks
We work to make all school closing decisions no later than 6 a.m., and will always send an automatic phone message to all of our families and staff members. We also contact all local radio stations, TV stations, and newspapers. If school remains in session, parents and guardians have the right to keep their student(s) home if they feel it is not safe for them to come to school.
We make these difficult decisions about snow days with thoughtful, well-researched, and conscientious practices and procedures, and we appreciate your patience while we work to determine the best course of action when inclement weather is upon us.
