City of Green Hosts Public Meeting on November 10 to Reveal Preliminary Designs of the Community Courts Project
GREEN, OH – The City of Green invites the community to attend a public meeting to unveil the preliminary designs for the Community Courts Project on Thursday, November 10 at 7 p.m. in City Council Chambers, 1755 Town Park Blvd.
The preliminary design for the facility, updated to reflect feedback from the public and school administrators, is designed to promote an active lifestyle for our youth, adult, and senior populations. The public meeting will begin with a brief presentation of the preliminary design from Mayor Gerard Neugebauer, representatives from Green Local Schools, and the design team followed by questions and answers.
Mayor Gerard Neugebauer initially discussed his vision for the Green Community Courts at his State of the City Address in January 2022. The Community Courts would combine physical activity space for the new Green Middle School along with open community court space. The space features an indoor walking track, multi-purpose courts, multi-purpose rooms for fitness, dance and yoga classes, and a turf practice field.
The Community Courts is slated to constructed in the location of the existing Green Intermediate School, which is located conveniently next to Central Park, the Green Memorial Stadium, and other sports and recreational facilities.
This collaboration between Green Local Schools and the City of Green is a key element of the new school facilities plan that will allow the schools to prioritize levy funds for classroom and instructional space, while city resources are used to create the active space needed in the community.
The city will build the Community Courts by using of a combination of funds from the General Fund and the City’s Parks and Recreation Capital Fund, which by city charter receives 7% of the city’s income tax revenues.
The public meeting is open to all. It will also be livestreamed and archived at www.cityofgreen.org/videos.
