Grand Opening of Sisler Park Tennis and Pickleball Courts to be held Tuesday, Oct. 25

The City of New Franklin will host a grand opening event for the new tennis and pickleball courts at Sisler Park on Tuesday, October 25 at 4 p.m. The six tennis courts and four pickleball courts will then be open for public use.

“This is a legacy project for City Council and our Parks and Recreation board who worked tirelessly to make this project happen,” stated New Franklin Mayor Paul Adamson. “This is an amenity our citizens have wanted since 2004, and we were finally able to make it happen.”

Following the ribbon cutting, Laurene Hildenbrand, a 90-year-old Senior Olympian, along with pickleball ambassadors, officials, coaches, and players from across northeast Ohio, will play exhibition games on the pickleball courts. The Manchester High School girls’ tennis team will hold their Senior Recognition ceremony and play an exhibition match on the new tennis courts, which will become the team’s home court.

Manchester Athletic Director Brody Jackson is very excited about finally having home tennis courts for Manchester. “Our girls tennis program has grown so much over the past few years and has been one of our most successful programs. The players and parents have driven all over the area to practice or play, and this addition will help develop even more tennis players in our community,” he stated. “This is a huge step for our tennis program, and our kids will truly benefit from it!”

The new courts will remain open for use, weather-permitting with tentative plans to take the nets down for the season after Thanksgiving. The courts will reopen in the spring. For additional information, call City Administration at 330-882-4324.
