New Franklin, Ohio, June 2, 2022- The City of New Franklin is among the recipients of the most recent round of State Capital Budget funding. The City’s request for $300,000  for the Tudor House on Portage Lakes was one of twenty-eight Summit County projects approved in House Bill 687 signed June 2 by Governor DeWine. Over the last two years, the 9-acre property on Turkeyfoot Lake has received over $1 million in improvements to the house and grounds by the City and its property management team Mason’s Cove.

As the scheduled projects and upgrades to the house and grounds continue, the funding received from the state will be used on foundational projects including sea wall restoration along the lakefront, installation of a pier and day-use docks for visitors, and the addition of a lighted lakefront trail to connect the Tudor House grounds to the neighboring 411-acre Portage Lakes State Park.

“The request for funding for these projects was submitted in February and was met with enthusiastic and effective support from State Senator Kristina Roegner and House Representative Bill Roemer,” said New Franklin Mayor Paul Adamson. “Without the support of Senator Roegner and Representative Roemer, this integral piece of the expansion and improvements to the grounds would not have been possible. The city expects these projects to be completed for the summer of 2023, and we look forward to continuing our efforts to make the New Franklin Tudor House and grounds an attractive and pleasing venue for the enjoyment of our community.”

“New Franklin has a great community asset in the Tudor House, and I was pleased to work with my legislative colleagues to assist them in their good stewardship,” said Representative Roemer. “These infrastructure improvements will ensure the historic Tudor House will remain a safe and valuable community site for many years to come.”

In a statement issued by Governor DeWine, he thanked the General Assembly for their partnership in supporting these important projects across Ohio that will make a tremendous impact and continue job growth in our state. He added, “House Bill 687 also creates a significant and historic investment into our state parks, which are true gems which can be enjoyed by all Ohioans and those who support our tourism industry."

The City of New Franklin is home to nearly 15,000 residents across 27 square miles at the southern edge of Summit County. Established in 2006, New Franklin is home to the Portage Lakes State Park making the City a year-round outdoor recreation destination and a great place to live, work, and play.

The historic Tudor House mansion was built in 1927 by a Goodrich executive as a wedding gift for his grandson. The 9-acre lakefront property is adjacent to the Portage Lakes State Park. It is owned by the City of New Franklin and used for community events and private event rentals.
