Update from EPA Investigation 1,4-Dioxane Groundwater Investigation at Industrial Excess Landfill in Uniontown, Ohio
June 2, 2022 (GREEN, OH) -- The City of Green has been notified by the US EPA that some wells in the investigation area within Green have detected 1-4 dioxane. Currently 12 of 33 wells tested in Summit County have had detection of 1-4 dioxane. The current area of investigation is clustered around SR619/East Turkeyfoot Lake Road and the Stark County line. As soon as a map is provided by the EPA of the affected area, we will post it to our website. Those residents who are in the current investigation area have received either a letter/fact sheet from USEPA or a door hanger from Summit County Public Health. If you have received a letter or door hanger and have not yet had your well tested, please reach out to the US EPA at 312-353-9078 or Thompson.robert@epa.gov.
The City of Green is committed to giving you up to date information as it is received from the USEPA. The USEPA is the lead response agency overseeing the sampling of the groundwater at the Industrial Excess Landfill Superfund Site, if you are a community member with questions please direct them to Ruth Muhtsun, Community Involvement Coordinator at (312) 886-6595. SCPH will be providing support to the EPA by accompanying them while they test the wells and answering questions regarding recommendations for well mitigation. Question that involve well mitigation or maintenance should be directed to SCPH to Ali Rogalski, Water Quality Manager, at (330)926-5639.
