New Programs for Green Active Adults in 2022

GREEN, OH -- The City of Green Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to share our expanded Green Active Adult programming offerings for the spring and summer.  Geared for those 50 years of age or older, these new programs feature educational classes and activities, bus trips, monthly lunches, and fitness classes.

Educational Classes & Activities

  • Greeting Card Making – The next greeting card making class is on May 4 at the John Torok Community Center, 4224 Massillon Rd, at 11:00am. The class has a fee of $10, which includes the materials to get creative and make greeting cards for friends and loved ones. This class will be held on the first Wednesday of each month through December. Registration is required, call 330-896-6621 or email parks@cityofgreen.org
  • Cooking class – The introductory cooking class on Wednesday, April 20 at 4 pm at the Portage Lakes Career Center, 4401 Shriver Rd, is geared toward seniors, but any adult may sign up. Participants will be making pan-seared chicken with roasted red pepper puree sauce, lemon zest sugar snap peas, and quinoa brown rice blend. The cost for class and dinner is $25.   • Sip & Paint – The Sip & Paint activity on Wednesday, May 18 at 11 am at the John Torok Community Center, 4224 Massillon Rd, features non-alcoholic beverages to enjoy while following step-by-step painting instruction. The event is presented by Devoted Health Plans. The event is free, registration is required, call 330-896-6621 or email parks@cityofgreen.org
  • Container Gardening – The container gardening class is on Thursday, May 19 at the John Torok Community Center, 4224 Massillon Rd, at 6:30pm. The container gardening class is free. Registration is required, call 330-896-6621 or email parks@cityofgreen.org
Fitness Classes

  • Self-Defense – Held at the John Torok Community Center, 4224 Massillon Rd, free weekly self- defense classes are offered on Thursdays at 9 am. Registration is not required. 
  • Toning –Held at the John Torok Community Center, 4224 Massillon Rd, free weekly toning classes are offered on Mondays at 1 pm. Registration is not required.
  • Yoga – Held at the John Torok Community Center, 4224 Massillon Rd, free weekly yoga classes are offered Tuesdays at 10 am.  Registration is not required.
  • Tap-4-Fun – Held at the Central Park Community Hall, 1755 Town Park Blvd, a free 5-week tap class is offered at 11:00am. The dates for these classes are April 26, May 10, May 17, May 24, and May 31. Registration is required, call 330-896-6621 or email parks@cityofgreen.org
  

Monthly Lunches

The Green Active Adult Monthly Lunches are on an on-your-own basis, meaning transportation and payment are the responsibility of the attendees. Those who wish to attend should meet at the below locations at the time stated.  Registration requested at 330-896-6621 or email parks@cityofgreen.org.

  • Pancho’s Southwest Grille, 4335 Massillon Rd - Tuesday, May 3, 11:30 am
  • Menches Brothers Restaurant, 3700 Massillon Rd - Tuesday, June 7, 11:30 am
  • Jerzee’s Sports Grille, 1019 E Turkeyfoot Lake Rd - Tuesday, July 5, 11 am
  • 35 Brix Restaurant, 3875 Massillon Rd - Tuesday, August 2, 11:30 am
  • Crazy Chicken, 790 Arlington Ridge - Tuesday, September 6, 11:30 am

Bus Trips 

This year the Green Active Adults have the chance to visit some exciting places in Ohio! There are two bus trips scheduled for the Fall listed below. There will be more information on times, cost, and registration shortly.

  • Smucker’s, The Barn Restaurant, and Lehman’s Hardware, Thursday, September 15, Time TBD
  • Christmas Connection, Cleveland IX Center, Friday, November 18, Time TBD
